Welcome
Project Tips is a place where we’ll talk about project management and what it’s like to be new to leadership. There are many blogs directed at the seasoned project manager but I’m seeing a lack of resources for the reluctant project manager. Perhaps you’re someone who is technically skilled, and now your manager has asked you to be the “tech lead” on a project. Perhaps you’re a teacher and you want to lead a successful community service project in your classroom. Perhaps you’ve been doing project management for a long time and you’d just like a place where you can relax and ask questions about the challenges you face. I’ve been leading projects for about 15 years, first at Hewlett-Packard and more recently in my own consulting business, Facilitated Change. I’ve taught a course in Information Technology Project Management for the past three years, and have also mentored many new project managers. I feel that good project management is crucial in our modern business environment in that it helps to create a sustainable economy. So much of modern business is based on “using up” resources, especially when it comes to work-life balance. Let’s figure out a better way to get things done.
